I saw the headlines; Hilter marches into AustriaWarsaw is bombedFar away from thata darksideForced-labor camps
Why do they hate us?They took away my parentsThey took away my possessionsTheyre not gonna take away my soul
What do I see?Total darkness, and separation,Our eyes lockedTears rolling down our cheeks
I see the mall of deadI ask myself what is going on?Wheres God?
Can you imagine? The inhumanity of man against manWhy did I survive? Why did god spear me?
The HolocastFifty thousand survivedSo few live to tellPeople are not born with hatred
I choose Sorrow and Survival, because I wanted to be able to tell a story, one that has lived through the whole thing so that I can portray a message to the readers. Survival was chosen so I could do exactly that, the few that did survive had the most to say. Sorrow, it was cruel and inhumane what the Nazi’s did to the Jews, but overall there was a feeling of sorrow and cruelty. They felt even as if they’re own God couldn’t save them; there was nothing left to do but to hope for survival. Many of them spent what felt like eternity in these concentration camps, then were just tortured and killed in the end. They’re family, friends and passions were taken away from them. The Jews had nothing left but themselves. People were left in depression, no hope for anything in life. In my poem I wanted it to tell a story from the beginning to end of a Jew. That is why my central theme was survival and sorrow, the only two things they had left.
